Things to Do in Wimberley, TX
Jacob’s Well Natural Area
Wimberley, Texas, is located about 45 minutes southwest of Austin, TX, making it an easy day trip or weekend getaway road trip from the big city!
One of the best swimming holes in Texas, Jacob’s Well, is located in the Jacob’s Well Natural Area in Wimberley.
Filled by the waters of the Trinity Aquifer, the water pumping into Jacob’s Well is a cool 68 degrees.
Visitors can swim here from May 1 until October 1, but note; you need a reservation (especially on the weekend) as this is a popular area, and they limit capacity.
The park is open to visitors year-round.
An extensive underground cave system at the well attracts scuba divers, but note that the cave system is off-limits.
You are not allowed to dive into the cave as it is dangerous.
Blue Hole
One of the top places to cool off from the sweltering Texas heat is the Blue Hole Regional Park.
Here you can enjoy the spring-fed waters in the shade of towering cypress trees, all surrounded by a 126-acre park in the Texas Hill Country.
A favorite attraction here is the rope swings.
People love swinging out over the clue blue water and making a big splash on their way in!
The Blue Hole swimming area fills up quickly, so reservations are required (especially on the weekend).
And don’t forget; you can come to the park year-round!
This is a great day trip from Austin to get out and enjoy a bit of nature!
Bella Vista Ranch
The owner of Bella Vista Ranch, Jack Dougherty, realized after purchasing the ranch that the soil in the area is very similar to that found in the Mediterranean.
This discovery leads Jack to try his hand at olive growing, resulting in a fabulous place for you to experience a bit of the Mediterranean in the Texas Hill Country.
After growing the beautiful olives, Bella Vista Ranch presses them to make the fabulous local olive oils you can taste and purchase!

Wimberley, Texas Market Days
Wimberley, Texas Market Days are the perfect place to find a Texas treasure to take home with you.
Originally established in 1964 with just a few vendors, Wimberley Market Days has become a showcase place for local artists and vendors to sell their wares.
The best part is admission is free!
Held the first Saturday of every month, free admission and parking is a $5 donation to the Lions Club, making this a great weekend activity.
Wimberley Valley Winery
Located outside of Wimberley, Texas, on Lone Man Mountain Road, Wimberley Valley Winery greets guests with a large tasting room and plenty of wines to sample.
Outside, you will find decks with fountains and plenty of seating.
Throughout the property, you will find additional seating under the large oak trees that allow visitors to find a little place all to themselves.
Pro Tip: Wimberley Valley Winery is a popular stop on wine tours and can get very busy on weekends.
Keep that in mind when planning your visit, especially if you want a tasting or join one of the local wine tours!
Local Artists
Known for being an artist’s community, Wimberley, Texas, has numerous art galleries for you to enjoy.
One of our favorites is Wimberley Glassworks.
Wimberley Glassworks features hand-blown glass lights, sculptures, vases, and platters.
Wimberley Glassworks also hosts daily glass-blowing demonstrations to show you exactly how they create their glass works of art.
If you have never had the opportunity to watch a glass-blowing demonstration, we highly recommend it.
It is truly an awesome demonstration.

Many other local art galleries in Wimberley, Texas, are open for visitors.
Several are located around the downtown square and other surrounding towns.

Shop on Downtown Wimberley Square
If shopping is at the top of your list of the best things to do, you must hit the square.
The Wimberley Square, or “downtown” as locals call it, is full of shops containing décor, clothing, art, jewelry, and more!
Some of our favorite local stores include Kiss the Cook, Shop the Tree House, and The Bazaar.
All of these shops offer unique and fun merchandise.
You can often find one-of-a-kind items, some hand-made by local artists.
Swim in Cypress Creek Falls
When most people think of swimming in Wimberley, Texas, they think of Jacob’s Well Natural Area, but what if I told you there is another great Wimberley swimming hole?!
Cypress Creek Falls, located on Cypress Creek, is another great escape from the Texas heat while enjoying nature.
Cypress Creek is spring-fed from Jacob’s Well, making it cold and refreshing year-round.
Now, you must check in at the Cypress Falls Lodge and purchase a wristband.
They are busy on the weekend, so make a reservation.
Get an Ice Cream at The Wooden Spoon
The Wooden Spoon is a great way to cool down from the Texas Hill Country sun.
Grab a scoop of one of their unique flavors, like watermelon or strawberry shortcake.
If you’re feeling really adventurous, top that scoop of ice cream with one of their many toppings!
Have a Great Meal at the Leaning Pear
Foodies, ensure you have The Leaning Pear on your list while visiting Wimberley, Texas.
Known for its locally sourced seasonal food, the Leaning Pear will surely delight your culinary senses.
Diners can indulge in wood-fired pizzas that are as unique as Wimberley.
If pizza does not sound good, maybe a freshly made crab cake of some chicken and grits will.
Lavender Farms
If you love lavender, then the Texas Hill Country will not disappoint.
While there are several beautiful lavender fields in the Texas Hill Country, if you are in Wimberley, you should consider Rough Creek Lavender Fields, located about 7 miles northwest of Wimberley, Texas.
Rough Creek Lavender Fields has over 5,000 lavender plants where you can pick your own lavender or browse their fabulous little store.
This is a fun weekend activity!
Wimberley Trail of Lights
If you want to be enchanted, head to the EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens in Wimberley, Texas, during December to see the Wimberley Trail of Lights.
Held at the EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens, this event will surely get you in the holiday spirit. This six-acre light display makes Wimberley one of our favorite places to celebrate Christmas in Texas.
The Emily Ann Theatre & Gardens displays have become a tradition in this town.
Not only that, but it is free; they ask for a small donation to the charity that is being featured.
You can also catch live performances at their outdoor theatre during the year.
Cypress Creek Rum Distillery
After a trip to Mauritius, the owner, David Watson, had the idea to import some of the delicious rum he discovered on the island.
After learning what was involved with importing rum, he decided to ditch that idea and state making his own rum distillery in the Texas Hill Country instead.
After much research and hard work, Cypress Creek Reserve Rum Distillery was born.
The distillery is open Tuesday-Saturday from 11:30-5:30.
During this time, you can sample some of their fine rum or take one of their distillery tours.
This is a great addition to your itinerary when you visit Wimberley!
Wimberley Valley Museum
Located inside the Winters-Wimberley House, the Wimberley Valley Museum will help you learn all about how the town of Wimberley came to be.
Not only do you get to see a fun little Texas Hill Country museum, but you also get to be in a home listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
Ino’z
Located in the heart of downtown with a great outdoor deck overlooking Cypress Creek, Ino’z is a no-frills establishment serving pub food and drinks and often live music on the weekend.
Ino’z has an extensive menu that includes salads, fish, steak, and sandwiches.
They also serve daily drink specials that are perfect to sip on while listening to live music!
Enjoy Some Alone Time in a Cabin
If your trip to Wimberley is a weekend getaway, you will not have to look far in this little town.
Wimberley is home to many rental cabins and boutique hotel properties, many of which are adults-only and some by the river!
7A Ranch
7A Ranch is a classic family-owned ranch right on the banks of the Blanco River in the Texas Hill Country.
The Ranch is a fun place to stay, boasting several types of lodging, including cabins and larger lodges.
The best part about 7A is getting a day pass to enjoy the ranch.
With a day pass, guests can enjoy access to the ranch, including swimming in the Blanco River and the resort pool.
The Pioneer Town on 7A Ranch is a cute replica of an old west town with an arcade and ice cream parlor!
Sugar Shack Bakery
If you are like us and have a constant sweet tooth, you are in for a treat at the Sugar Shack Bakery.
Located in a small shop off River Road, the Sugar Shack serves up all things sweet!
Walking inside, the delicate aroma of baked goods and coffee greets you.
You have a hard decision with treats ranging from homemade cookies to fresh pastries.
Final Thoughts on Things to Do in Wimberley
Honestly, Wimberley, Texas, is just one of those towns that are easy to love.
We have visited several times, and every time I find some new little hidden gem that I had not discovered yet.
It is easy to relax and unwind in Wimberley, making it a great getaway for a long weekend or a restful couple of weeks.

Fantastic post! There is so much to see and do in Wimberley. You could easily spend an entire day here! There's a new puzzle shop, Monster Treats and a number of other new stores since your visit. I love my hometown!
