By: Michelle Snell

Looking for the perfect romantic getaway in Texas? As a Texas couple born and raised in the Lone Star State, we’ve spent years exploring Texas together – from the Hill Country wine towns and cozy cabins to beach escapes and charming small towns.

Over the years, we’ve discovered that Texas is far more romantic than most people expect. Whether you want a secluded cabin in the woods with a hot tub, a winery weekend, a luxury resort, a beach retreat, or a nature-filled escape under the stars, Texas has options for every type of couple.

This guide includes destinations we’ve personally visited and continue to recommend based on our experiences exploring Texas together.

Romantic Hill Country Getaways

Fredericksburg

romantic getaways in Texas

Fredericksburg will always be one of our favorite romantic getaways in Texas because it combines wineries, small town charm, excellent food, and beautiful Hill Country scenery. We’ve visited multiple times and always end up wishing we could stay a little longer.

Best romantic things to do:

  • Visit the Fredericksburg wineries and do wine tastings on Wine Road 290
  • Watch the sunset at Enchanted Rock
  • Reserve a cozy romantic couples’ cabin
  • Enjoy a romantic dinner

Where we would stay:

Our take:

We especially love visiting during wildflower season (thing Texas bluebonnets) and around the holidays.

Wimberley

romantic getaways in Texas

We love visiting the small town of Wimberley, and consider it a great romantic getaway because it feels like a true escape without a long drive from our hometown of Fort Worth. Tucked away in the Texas Hill Country, Wimberley combines scenic beauty, cozy cabins, local shops, and just an overall slower pace that makes it easy to unplug and connect as a couple.

Best romantic things to do:

  • Swim at Blue Hole Regional Park
  • Watch the sunset from Old Baldy
  • Browse the shops around Wimberley Square
  • Book a couple’s cabin with a hot tub
  • Visit local wineries and breweries nearby

Where we’d stay:

Our experience:

We always leave Wimberley wishing we had booked an extra night. It’s one of those places where time seems to slow down and evenings seem extra peaceful.

Boerne

romantic getaways in Texas

Boerne has quickly become one of our favorite Hill Country towns because it offers a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere than some of the larger destinations that surround it. Couples looking for great food, fun outdoor activities, beautiful scenery, and a charming downtown area will love Boerne.

Best romantic things to do:

  • Walk, shop, and eat on the Hill Country Mile
  • Visit nearby wineries
  • Enjoy a riverside picnic
  • Watch a sunset at Cibolo Nature Center

Where we would stay:

Our experience:

One of our favorite parts of Boerne is simply slowing down and wandering. Some of our best memories here have come from discovering unexpected restaurants and local spots.

Dripping Springs

romantic getaways in Texas

Dripping Springs is such a fabulous romantic getaway in the Texas Hill Country, thanks to its blend of wineries, distilleries, beautiful scenery, and cozy accommodations, all with easy access to Austin. Couples looking for a getaway centered around food, drinks, and relaxing together will find plenty to love here.

Our experience:

Dripping Springs works especially well for couples because you can make the weekend whatever you want it to be. One trip can feel adventurous with hiking and distilleries, while another can be completely focused on slowing down and relaxing.

Marble Falls

Marble Falls is one of those romantic Texas destinations that tends to surprise people. Nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, it combines lake views, wineries, scenic drives, and a slower pace, making it perfect for couples looking to unplug for a weekend. We especially love that it feels close enough for an easy getaway but still delivers that “we escaped for a few days” feeling.

Best romantic things to do:

  • Spend an afternoon wine tasting
  • Explore the shops and local eateries in Downtown Marble Falls
  • Watch the sunset near Lake Marble Falls
  • Take a scenic drive through the Hill Country
  • Visit nearby Longhorn Caverns or Inks Lake State Park

Where we would stay:

Our experience:

Marble Falls feels especially romantic when you stop trying to “see everything” and just enjoy the slower pace. Grab coffee, wander downtown, or spend an evening lingering over the sunset and Hill Country views.

Gruene

romantic getaways in Texas

Guene feels like stepping back into a slower era in Texas. Historic buildings, live music, and riverside scenery make this one of the easiest romantic trips in Texas for couples looking to relax.

Best romantic things to do:

  • Float the Guadalupe River
  • Browse antique shops
  • Enjoy dinner overlooking the river
  • Listen to live music

Romantic Beach Escapes

South Padre

romantic getaways in Texas

South Padre Island is a great romantic Texas beach getaway thanks to its mix of relaxation, ocean views, and adventure. While many people associate South Padre Island with spring break, couples who visit at the right time will find beautiful beaches, waterfront dining, and surprising romantic experiences. Some of our favorite moments came from slowing down, walking the shoreline, and simply enjoying the expansive ocean views.

Port Aransas

romantic getaways in Texas

Port Aransas is one of our favorite Texas romantic beach getaways for couples who want a laid-back coastal escape. Compared to some of the busier beach destinations, Port Aransas has a slower, more relaxed feel that makes it ideal for reconnecting and unwinding. Big Bend offers a completely different type of romance. Instead of wineries and downtown shopping, couples come here for dramatic landscapes, quiet nights with unmatched dark skies, and unforgettable sunsets.

Best romantic things to do:

While we had a difficult time in Big Bend (the transmission went out on our car), it still gave us some great travel memories. There’s something incredibly special about sitting by a campfire under a sky full of stars with the one you love that will create lasting memories no matter the circumstances of the day. We can easily see why it is one of the top Texas road trips.
