Reasons to Visit Walkers Mill Vineyard and Winery in East Texas

Support a Family Owned Winery

Upon meeting Art and Adrianna Strahan, we were instantly captivated by their welcoming spirit and fairy-tale love story.

Adrianna was assigned as Art’s interpreter while he was doing mission work in Brazil. Although life took them separate ways for 13 years after this meeting, the two found their way back to one another, and a fairy-tale love story commenced.

After moving to Texas, Adrianna would often pick the Muscadine grapes that grew wild on their property, not yet knowing that these grapes would later lead to the production of one of our favorite East Texas wineries.

Adrianna states, “While picking the wild Muscadine grapes, I was talking to God trying to find my purpose. I looked down at the Muscadines in my hand and realized that the grapes grown on my property were the answer.”

After this, the couple set out to transform their 90 acres of ranch and forest land in East Texas.

I love that their wines are named after their family members, and one, Baby Blue, features a picture of their grandson on the label.

This proves that when you visit Walkers Mill Vineyard and Winery, you truly support a family-owned business.

Taste Local Texas Wines

As mentioned above, Walkers Mill grows Muscadine grapes on their property. These hearty grapes are revered across the southern states, including Texas, thanks to their ability to thrive in harsh environments.

While many people first experience Muscadine grapes in jams and jellies, Muscadines are also used to make wines and juices.

You can experience this local wine when you visit the tasting room at Walkers Mill.

Walkers Mill is in the process of constructing a new tasting room on their property, so they are temporarily offering tasting in their Mill Barn, which is the property’s event center.

We enjoyed a wine tasting in the beautiful barn during our visit and fell in love with the simplistic yet gorgeous environment.

During your wine tasting, you can sample the wines on hand. These include dry and sweet wines, giving you a variety of local wines, several of which are award-winning!

If you are a white wine drinker, don’t miss tasting my personal favorite, the Peach Pinot Noir, a semi-sweet wine made from white grapes. To quote my friend, Kristi, this wine is like “sunshine in a glass!” This is one of the vineyard’s best wines, in my opinion!

If white wine isn’t your thing, you will want to stick to the red wine menu. Red wine drinkers can try the Cabernet Sauvignon or Adrianna’s favorite, the sweet red wine known as Angelina. (I personally loved their Cabernet Sauvignon!)

Once you have found a wine you love, purchase a bottle or a glass of their excellent handcrafted wines from the wine bar before enjoying their beautiful property.

Explore the Beautiful Property

After your time in the tasting room doing a wine tasting, grab a bottle of your favorite local wine and head outside to explore the property’s beautiful rolling hills and vineyards.

This vineyard winery offers a variety of outdoor seating, including an outdoor patio, the perfect place to drink wine in the beautiful Texas countryside overlooking the vineyard.

We fell in love with the vineyards at Walkers Mill. Not only are they making wine for us, but they are also the perfect backdrop for a fun couple’s photoshoot.

We took full advantage of the beautiful vineyards and winery during our visit, and with the help of Melanie and Tony Juays, the owners of Lekker Wine Tours and Juays Photography, we captured some awesome photos amongst the grapes and vineyards!

Of course, a photo shoot isn’t required. You could enjoy the vineyard winery and the tasting room while you drink wine during your visit.

As mentioned above, Walkers Mill is currently expanding their facilities by building a new tasting room. In addition to the new tasting room, they also have some on-site accommodations under construction.

According to the owner, Adrianna Strahan, the new tasting room will be the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine while enjoying TAPAS, the perfect way to spend a quiet evening at the winery.

Adrianna also envisions the new tasting room offering intimate events like live music, blind deductive tastings, food and wine pairings, and theme nights! (Now that’s a great lineup of winery events!)

The accommodations, which are projected to be completed in November 2023, will make for the perfect winery getaway.

The four guest suites will boast a queen or king-sized bed and luxurious bathrooms perfect for a couple’s getaway.

In addition, guests will have the option of having a Latin/European-inspired breakfast on the property that will include things like croissants, granola, season fruit, juices, and, of course, Mimosas made from Walkers Mill sparkling wine!

Marty and I can’t wait for these additions to open. We hope to be one of the winery’s first guests when they do!
