Stay at FireSong Ranch
For the ultimate experience in Spicewood, TX, you must book a stay at FireSong Ranch. I will warn you, though, the accommodations here are so fabulous that you might not want to leave!
Located on 15 beautiful acres of Texas Hill Country property, FireSong Ranch offers guests three unique properties, each with its own distinct style.
Owners Dawn and Jim Madigan have a keen eye for design and a big heart, donating a percentage of their revenues to help foster families in the great state of Texas.
Guests can choose from The Casita, a 1,000-square-foot ranch-style property with sweeping views of the property thanks to the additional 600 feet of deck space surrounding the house. With all the comforts of home, The Casita offers guests the perfect home base to explore all that Spicewood, TX, has to offer.
NDotto is FireSong Ranch’s glamping tent, the perfect luxury escape for two, and was the first accommodation offered on FireSong Ranch. Named after the owner’s rescued premature adopted elephant, NDotto means “to dream” in Swahili and has become the symbol and inspiration for FireSong Ranch.
NDotto is a hidden gem and the perfect addition to your couple’s bucket list. We have enjoyed our fair share of glamping in Texas, and I am here to tell you NDotto is one of the most spectacular glamping properties we have ever seen!
The interior space of NDotto offers guests a king-size bed, a comfortable living space, and a full kitchen, all surrounded by gorgeous hill country views. After a long day of exploring, unwind in the freestanding soaking tub or the outdoor sanctuary with an outdoor shower, a Texas-sized fireplace, and a hot tub!
During our visit to FireSong Ranch, we stayed in their barndominium, Casa Del Sueno. We were blown away (so much so that I hesitate to call it a barndominium).
Casa Del Sueno, meaning “Dream House” in Spanish, is a dream! No expense was spared in creating this two-bedroom, 1500-square-foot guest house. From the chic furnishing to the upscale appliances, the Madigans ensure that every need is met.
Couples won’t have to argue about who gets the primary suite while staying at Casa Del Sueno, with each bedroom boasting a comfy king-sized bed and luxurious bathroom. Other interior amenities include a chef’s kitchen complete with a Milano cooktop and oven, a Delonghi’s All-In-One Coffee/Espresso Machine, and all the dishes and utensils to ensure you can create a gourmet meal.
The icing on the cake at this property is the additional 1800 square feet of outdoor entertaining space. Guests can cook a meal in the outdoor kitchen, which includes a propane grill and pizza oven, before enjoying a glass of wine in the ThermoSpa hot tub.
We loved lounging around the fire pit at the end of the day, reminiscing about all the fun we had exploring Spicewood, TX!
I assure you that any future visits to Spicewood will include a stay at FireSong Ranch!
Swim at Krause Springs
If you are visiting Spicewood, TX, or the Texas Hill Country during the summer, visiting Krause Springs is a must!
With 32 natural springs on the property that feed both a man-made and a natural pool, Krause Springs is the perfect place to cool off from the Texas summer heat.
Enjoy exploring Krause Springs’s property, registered on the National Registry of Historical Sites, before enjoying a picnic lunch at their picnic tables or by the waterfalls.
Krause Springs also offers RV and primitive camping sites if you want to stay the night at this hill country paradise.
This is a great addition to any Spicewood, TX, itinerary!
Tour Westcave Preserve
Another highlight of the Spicewood area is Westcave Preserve, also called the Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center.
This beautiful 76-acre preserve contains one of the best waterfalls in Texas that cascades over 40 feet, making this a truly incredible addition to your Texas Hill Country itinerary.
We love how Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center strives to minimize the human impact on their preserve to help maintain the integrity of their property.
This preservation means you must make a reservation to visit Westcave Preserve, but it is well worth the effort.
Your guided tour allows you to see the beautiful hidden grotto and the open cave that contains stalactites and stalagmites.
This little jewel of Burnet County should be on your list of things to do in Spicewood, TX!
Go Ziplining at Cypress Valley Canopy Tours

Visit a Winery
One of my favorite activities in the Texas Hill Country is to visit the area’s wineries. Luckily, several wineries are in Spicewood, TX, and the Marble Falls area to enjoy!
Spicewood Vineyards is a family-owned vineyard that welcomes guests to enjoy their comfortable and relaxed environment. Inside their tasting room, you can sample their wines before choosing your favorite to enjoy outside, overlooking the grape vines at Spicewood Vineyards.
If you want to taste Australian wines without leaving the comfort of the Lone Star State, then head to Stone House Vineyard in Spicewood, TX. Stone House serves up dry red and white wines on their beautiful property overlooking Lake Travis.
For a laid-back, casual wine tasting, visit 5 Soul Wine Co., where you can enjoy a glass of wine while playing fun backyard games.
Enjoy the Outdoors at Muleshoe Bend
Muleshoe Bend is located just down the road from FireSong Ranch and is a great place to enjoy the Texas Hill Country landscape.
The area offers many outdoor recreational opportunities and is one of our favorite places to see bluebonnets in Texas!
During your visit to Muleshoe Bend, take advantage of the mountain bike trails before hitting the water. If you don’t have your own equipment, you’re in luck, as the area offers stand-up paddleboards and kayaks for rent!
Muleshoe Bend is the perfect place in Spicewood, Texas, to get your nature fix!
It’s hard to believe this adventure is so near Austin, TX!
Visit the Iron Wolf Ranch & Distillery
Not only does the Texas Hill Country have some great wineries, but it also has loads of fun distilleries.
On our most recent trip to Spicewood, TX, we had the pleasure of visiting Iron Wolf Distillery Ranch & Distillery for the first time, and we loved it!
The casual atmosphere in the country is the first thing I noticed about this TX distillery. From the outdoor games to the picnic tables, Iron Wolf immediately felt like the type of place we wanted to hang out in.
Offering up live music, spirit tastings, and great cocktails, it is easy to see why Iron Wolf is a popular escape in the TX country.
We enjoyed several cocktails during our visit to this Spicewood gem, but I must admit, I fell in love with their HotScotch. This butterscotch whiskey is blended with Texas peppers, giving it a unique sweet and spicy flavor.
Dog and kid-friendly, Iron Wolf is a great entertainment spot in Spicewood, TX.
As we hung out in the park-like setting, I hoped Willie Nelson would show up. I mean, this does seem like his kind of place. No such luck, though.
Check Out The Narrows
The Narrows offers great Hill Country views and a free public boat launch to get you on Lake Travis.
Grab a burger and picnic under the shade trees, or enjoy this quiet section of Lake Travis during your visit to the park.
Walk the Trails at Grelle Recreation Area
Another fabulous area to enjoy time in nature while visiting Spicewood, TX, is Grelle Recreation Area.
The park encompasses over 276 acres of hiking, swimming, waterfalls, and recreation area. Visitors to Grelle love that the 7 miles of hiking trails are mostly shaded by the trees on this TX property.
The park also offers campsites if you want some extended time in nature.
I love that so many of the parks in Spicewood, TX have great waterfalls, trees, and entertainment options to offer.
Play Some Golf
Golf enthusiasts will be excited to visit Lakecliff Country Club during their time in Spicewood, TX.
Boasting an Arnold Palmer-designed golf course with twelve man-made lakes, this golf course is a highlight of the area.
In addition to practicing your golf swing here, you can also play a few rounds of tennis on Lakecliff’s US Open-style hard courts.
If the country club isn’t your scene, head nearby to Willie Nelson’s Pedernales Cut-N-Putt, where the beer is cold, and the tunes are loud. This is golf, only Willie style!
Visit Pace Bend Park
Another one of the popular parks in the area, Pace Bend Park, is famous for the limestone cliffs lining the waters of the lake here.
That’s because locals and visitors flock to this park to jump off those cliffs into Lake Travis’s cool waters.
Take note of the warnings everywhere advising that cliff diving is dangerous, and if you choose to participate, you do so at your own risk!
Even if you don’t want to cliff jump, you should still visit Pace Bend Park. This is a great spot to bring your dog and enjoy a walk around the lake or swim in the waters of Lake Travis.
Visit a Brewery
Spicewood, TX, is also home to a great craft brewery, Frontyard Brewing.
Frontyard serves up various beers, so you will surely find one you enjoy. Check out their Belgian Blonde Ale or Hazy IPA; the choice is yours.
Consider the Coffee Stout or Salted Caramel Stout for a fun and unique beer!
If you aren’t a big beer drinker, try their seltzer cocktails!
The brewery also hosts numerous events like Thursday Night Trivia, with chances to win free rounds of beer and free beer tokens.
With live music every Friday night, food trucks, and lawn games on site, it’s easy to see why Frontyard Brewing is a popular hangout in Spicewood, TX.
Check Out the Farmer’s Market
Every Sunday in Spicewood, TX, local vendors set up in the Apis parking lot selling everything from local produce to crafts.
If you find yourself in town on a Sunday, stop by from 10 am until 2 pm to support some local small businesses.
Chow Down at Opie’s Barbecue
You must visit if a barbecue restaurant is on Texas Monthly’s list of best barbecue joints!
While everything on the menu is good, I would go for the sweet & spicy ribs or the delicious Texas smoked brisket if I were you.
Marty always skips the brisket and opts for the smoked sausage. I think he’s crazy!
Pair that delicious Opie’s Barbecue with one of their tasty sides like tater tot casserole or spicy corn; just be sure to save room for some delicious banana pudding!
Pay a Visit to Poodie’s Hilltop Roadhouse
Another great place to eat in Spicewood, TX, is Poodie’s Hilltop Roadhouse.
Poodie was Willie Nelson’s longtime stage manager and proprietor of one of the best burger joints in Texas, Poodie’s Hilltop Roadhouse.
In addition to the burger, Poodie’s offers great live music and wonderful views of the Texas Hill Country!
During your visit, check out the memorabilia and play a round or two of the pool. This is the kind of place that TX communities are built on!
It would really be a shame to visit Spicewood, TX, and not have Poodie’s on your list of things to do!
