Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District

    131 E. Exchange Ave.

If you want to fully immerse yourself in the cowboy culture of Fort Worth, Texas, then you definitely want to head straight for the Fort Worth Stockyards.

This part of the city is so historical that it is considered a National Historic District!

While roaming the 98 acres, you can easily imagine what Fort Worth must have been like in the days of the old West. I mean, picture dirt streets, horses tied to hitching posts, and the entire area covered in cowboys.

While much has changed, the Fort Worth Stockyards has managed to preserve its heritage while embracing today’s modern amenities.

As you explore the area, notice the stockyards where millions of cattle were kept and traded throughout history. This is what gave Fort Worth the nickname “Cowtown.”

In the mid-1800s, this area was a major stop on the famous Chisholm Trail and is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of those looking to move west.

While here, don’t miss the twice-daily cattle drive that makes its way down the heart of Exchange Street in the Fort Worth Stockyards.

You can also visit the Cattle Raisers Museum and the Stockyards Museum to learn more about the city’s Western heritage.

The Stockyards Museum is a great addition to your itinerary!

The cattle drive, called the “Fort Worth Herd,” takes place no matter what the weather and is a fun introduction to the area.

Of course, you will also want to shop in the fun, boutique-style stores in the Fort Worth Stockyards.

When hungry, grab a steak at the legendary Cattlemen’s Steakhouse or check out the new guy in town, H3 Ranch.

These restaurants are iconic to the Fort Worth food scene!

A visit to the Fort Worth Stockyards isn’t complete without checking out the “World’s Largest Honky Tonk,” Billy Bob’s, or popping into the White Elephant Saloon, a bar from the 1800s.

You will have a great time no matter what you choose to do in the Fort Worth Stockyards while visiting the Dallas-Fort Worth area!
