There are so many things to do in Granbury, TX, that you will surely fall in love with it too!

This fabulous town boasts loads of Texas history, great shopping, a wonderful food scene, wineries for wine tasting, Lake Granbury, and the Granbury Opera House.

Granbury is one of the small Texas towns that will keep you coming back repeatedly.

A short drive from Dallas-Fort Worth means that Granbury, Texas, is a quick and easy day trip from Dallas.

Not only that, but Granbury makes for a perfect road trip in Texas as well!

    Lake Granbury

    One of the big draws to this little town is that the town of Granbury is centered around a fabulous Texas lake, Lake Granbury. 

    Lake Granbury was created in 1969 by damming up part of the Brazos River.

    Today, Lake Granbury is a long, narrow lake (because of the Brazos River) encompassing 103 miles of shoreline. 

    You can grab your fishing pole and head out on your boat or one of the many fishing piers on the lake to try catching some fish.

    Another fun thing to do on Lake Granbury is to enjoy water activities like jet skiing, wakeboarding, or skiing.

    There is a city boat ramp for Lake Granbury located on the Highway 377 bridge, where you can launch your watercraft for free.

    City Beach Park

    Lake Granbury is one of the things to do in Granbury TX

    Granbury’s City Beach Park is within walking distance of Historic Granbury Square.

    City Beach Park is the perfect place to picnic and swim for the day on Lake Granbury.

    Public restrooms, picnic tables, fishing piers, and a protected swimming area for you to enjoy at City Beach Park. They even offer kayak rentals during the summer months!

    City Beach Park is open from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. or sunset, whichever is later.

    Granbury Hike & Bike Trail

    The Granbury Moment in Time Hike & Bike Trail is another one of the fun things to do in this small town.

    This 2.93-mile trail is also a learning experience thanks to the plaques teaching you about Granbury’s local history and the surrounding area.

    Explore the Historic Granbury Square

    Granbury Square is the perfect place to spend an afternoon.

    An afternoon on Historic Granbury Square allows you to shop at the boutique shops, check out some local restaurants, do a wine tasting, and even have a live performance!

    During your visit to Historic Granbury Square, pop into the boutique clothing and home accessory shops before visiting the wine-tasting rooms.

    Don’t miss the unique little shops on the side streets and Granbury Square Plaza while on your Granbury getaway!

    At night, a ghost tour, The Granbury Ghosts and Legends Tour, leaves from the square if you are interested.

    Visit Art Galleries

    Artists and art lovers will not want to miss Granbury’s galleries. 

    Granbury, Texas, boasts several galleries containing everything from local artists’ paintings to hand-made jewelry.

    In addition to the art galleries on Historic Granbury Square, be sure to check out the Lake Granbury Art Association.

    They run a local gallery and studio in a historic building that used to be a gristmill.

    Catch a Live Performance at Granbury Opera House and Granbury Live

    Another of the fun things to do in downtown Granbury is to see a live performance at the entertainment venues in town. 

    You can attend a live performance at Granbury Opera House or Granbury Live.

    Both venues are conveniently located in the historic Granbury Square.

    The Granbury Opera House was originally built in 1886 before undergoing a $3.5 million dollar renovation in 2012 under the management of the Granbury Theatre Company. 

    Be sure to check their website for a complete schedule of the shows organized by the Granbury Theatre Company.

    Granbury Live is another live performance venue you might want to check out. 

    Granbury Live hosts a variety of live performers throughout the year right on the Granbury town square.

    Visit Wineries in Granbury, Texas

    D'Vine Wine exterior

    There are some really great wineries in downtown Granbury that you should check out on Granbury Square.

    D’Vine Wine is a full-production winery located on Granbury Square. Do a fun tasting of their Texas wines, enjoy a glass, or even get a frozen cocktail here.

    The Granbury Square is also home to Bull Lion Ranch Wine Shop and Baron’s Creek Winery, each offering wine tasting and wine by the glass or bottle in their wine-tasting rooms.

    Go Golfing

    Add golf to your list if you want to play some fun outdoor activities while on your Granbury getaway.

    Luckily, you can choose from several golf courses in Granbury.  Grab a friend and head out to one of the many courses to enjoy a day on the greens.

    Check Out the Breweries and Distilleries in Granbury

    Wine isn’t the only drink produced in this area. 

    Granbury is also home to a great brewery, Revolver Brewing, and a fun distillery, Local Goat Distillery.

    At Local Goat, you can enjoy a craft-made cocktail that uses vodka, gin, or rum as the base. 

    People from all over Dallas-Fort Worth also visit Granbury to visit Revolver Brewing.

    Revolver Brewing has an awesome atmosphere and tons of craft beers to choose from.

    Brew Drinkery, located by the town square, has over 40 craft beers on tap in addition to their wine and coffee selections.

    Brazos Drive-In

    Brazos Drive-In has to be on your Granbury itinerary.

    Be sure to pile as many as you want into a car because you pay by the carload at Brazos Drive-In. 

    This means you can bring the entire family to watch movies!

    Brazos Drive-In offers fun, family-friendly movies from March through November so the entire family will enjoy this outing.

    Railroad Depot Museum

    The railroad has always been an important part of the history of Hood County and the history of the United States. 

    The Railroad Depot Museum allows you to take a glimpse back in time to when the railroad was a vital asset to Granbury and its development.

    Its location near Granbury’s historic downtown square is within easy walking distance.

    Hood County Jail Museum

    The Hood County Jail Museum is right off Granbury’s historic downtown square. 

    This building housing the Hood County Jail Museum, built in 1885, served as the only jail for Granbury until 1978.

    The Hood County Jail Museum has interesting artifacts, and the upstairs cells are still in place, allowing you to learn more about Hood County and Granbury’s history.

    You can visit the Hood Country Jail Museum Friday-Sunday from noon until 5:00 p.m.

    Yeats-Duke 1858 Working Museum

    If you will be in Granbury on the weekend, plan to visit the Yeats-Duke 1858 Working Museum. 

    Here, you can step back in time and see demonstrations from days gone by while learning some local history.

    Granbury Doll House Museum

    The Granbury Doll House Museum houses a collection of dolls in a home that looks like a dollhouse!

    This is a unique small-town museum to visit.

    Dinosaur Valley State Park

    Dinosaur Valley State Park is technically located in Glen Rose, TX, but it is close enough to Granbury to include it on this list.

    Visiting Dinosaur Valley State Park lets you explore the dinosaur footprints fossilized in the Paluxy River!

    Dinosaur Valley State Park also offers other outdoor activities like camping, geocaching, walking trails, equestrian trails for horseback riding, and more.

    After you visit Dinosaur Valley State Park, you should go into the neighboring town of Glen Rose.

    Glen Rose has a cute town square, historic buildings, wine-tasting rooms, a nice bike trail, and several good restaurants.

    Shanley Park

    Shanley Park is Granbury’s city park, also called Bicentennial Park.

    A visit to Shanley Park is a great time outdoors. Shanley Park is a nicely landscaped park with fountains, water features, walking trails, and bridges, all within walking distance of Granbury’s historic downtown square.

    There is so much to see and do in Granbury. I would particularly love to see the Opera House and go to the beach. Visiting one the art galleries would be a plus.

    Granbury looks like a cute little town - but what I find most intriguing is the City Beach Park. Especially in the Texan heat, this must be a more than welcome oasis. Also the shopping options look quite tempting...

    We lived in Forth Worth for a bit when I was a kid and I remember going to Granbury but can't remember why! (too young) It looks like such a delightful town. Thank you for all the information!
